Denise Campbell was born into rural life in country NSW, Australia and it is the land and the elements that shape it, that remain a constant in the work of this well established artist.

During a career in Education, Denise also pursued her artistic interests with a series of private tuitions. However, it was after returning from five years in Europe, three of which were spent in Italy that Denise committed to studies towards a Fine Arts Diploma in the ‘90s. In 1995 she moved to studio space in Sydney, from where she conducted her full-time practice.

Denise holds a major exhibition each year. In 2002 her works were exhibited in three London based shows, including one at the Australian High Commission. In 2004 she was a finalist in the internationally touring Cromwell’s Art Prize exhibiting in Washington DC, USA. In 2006 her works were exhibited in Sorrento, Italy. In 2007, Denise was commissioned to produce 3 large works for the Australian Federal Government Dep’t of Defence. In 2008 she was a finalist in the prestigious Mosman Art Prize and in 2009 she was invited by Fundacion Valparaiso to a 1 month Artist Residency in Mojacar, southern Spain.

Outback travel and aerial flights continued to energise her dramatic perspectives that feature the brilliant burnt oranges, yellows and ochres that truly define the Australian outback landscape. Denise’s works have come to metaphorically express the openness and freedoms experienced in the Australian way of life.

Private and corporate collectors have picked up on Denise’s signature, vibrant approach and her paintings can now be found throughout Australia, the United Kingdom, China, Italy, Spain, Singapore and New Zealand.

Denise, having fallen in love with Spain , moved to live there permanently in 2013 and continues to paint in the landscape genre, however with the strong evidence of man´s effect on the landscape in Spain, rather than painting the broad vistas, it is nature and its contents which satisfy her more. Wherever opportunities present themselves throughout her numerous trips, she continues her activities, including painting, linocuts, and small sculptural works using nature`s bounty.
