Inspector Montalbano

For those who are followers of the Italian RAI television series, Inspector Montalbano, surely would have enjoyed Porto  Empedocle in Sicily. Several bars and restaurants here were named Vigata after the make believe town which was the setting for this television series. This was not because the series was filmed here, but that Porto Empedocle  was the home of the famed writer of the series , Andrea Camilleri.

Inspector Salvo Montalbano is played by Luca Zingaretti. The series was so famous that Porto Empedocle changed it`s name to Porto Empedocle Vigata.

The name Montalbano is a homage to the Spanish writer Manuel Vazquez Montalban, as the similarities between Montalban´s Pepe Carvalho and Camilleri`s fictional detective are remarkable. Each writer makes a great play of their protagonists`

gastronomic preferences.

Pictured is a great dinner we enjoyed in one such named restaurant..Vigata, in Porto Empedocle.
